A very beautiful tabletop music box from the late Victorian era. This Stella mahogany case music box with external crank has a first British patent date of 9/22/1885, and the last one is 8/14/1900. It is Swiss made, and all the parts are original. The dimensions are 9 3/4" tall, 18" wide, and 15 ½" deep. The music box is in excellent original condition, and has exceptional tone

All parts are and have the stamped serial numbers "45765". We attribute this music box by the serial numbers to Nicole Frere, made in Geneva, Switzerland (the French speaking part of Switzerland) between 1880 and 1882. More music boxes of a consistently good quality were made by Nicole Frere than any other company of the Victorian period, and on. The bed plate is screwed in from the bottom of the case. The bottom of the case has "LP" stamped on the side edges, "GD" in the center. The serial numbers "45765" appear on the rachet lever, spring barrel, bed plate, end of the pinned cylinder, drive wheel, tune card, and the underside of the case (please see picture of the pinned cylinder). The zither accompaniment is activated by a small lever at the base of the zither. The paper under the bar causes certain notes to have a deadened plucking tone when activated.
