This 182-page book was first published by the National
Phonograph Company in 1900 and shows the full line of Edison machines
sold at the turn of the century. It is an exact facsimile in every way,
even with the hard-cover linen-sewn binding. The acid-free paper will
stand years of use..
There are historical sections which show the rare tinfoil models on the 1870s, followed by the hard-to-find water-power type, and even the battery driven styles (Class M) of the early 1890s - even the highly collectible Treadle Model. These are followed by illustrated sections on the Gem, Standard, Home, Spring-Motor (Triumph) and Concert models. The line drawings are very sharp and show many details of the cabinets, reproducers, recorders, horns, batteries, and motors. There is also an informative chapter on Edison coin-operated phonographs, both spring-wind and electric types. Other chapters show how the phonograph was used in American homes to record on brown wax cylinders.
