1916 Kimberley Ambassador Round Oak Phonograph

 1916 Kimberley Ambassador phonograph
This is a harder to find phonograph in this style, and......it is in excellent condition. The round original wood case has a wider base and top, all in tight grained old quarter sawn golden oak that you will not find in todays wood. Folks, the wood case is original, not reproduction. Was it made for Kimberley? We don't know. The black horn has a brass edge (Repro ?), and has the original "Kimberley" reproducer attached to it. Are the horn & the older Victor elbow original? We are not sure. They seems to fit as they should, and do not seem to have been ever taken apart from the horn or tampered with. The horn is attached to the base by a thick metal support, and can be removed for traveling. Someone touched up a few chips in the paint on one side of the horn (please see picture). The Swiss works are by Thorens. We have had the mainspring replaced, and the motor oiled. It is common to see Thorens works in other small manufacturer of phonographs. The braking system has been replaced with Victor parts. The Kimberley Ambassador uses steel needles, which must be replaced every one to two plays.

The metal label attached to the side is marked "model is "110", serial number is "10886", and the factory is "Kimberley Phonograph Co., Perth Amboy, New Jersey" as shown (see pictures). The label is worn, and shows signs of old stain around the nails. The dimensions of this fine phonograph are; 12 3/4" in diameter base, 6 3/8" tall, the horn is 17 1/4" long, including the reproducer, and the horn opening is 9" in diameter at the widest point. The last patent date on the metal tag on the base is July 4, 1916
