Columbia Graphophone Model Q
Written by: Joan Lehman

Here you will find two full pages showing several fine examples of the Columbia "Q" Graphophone!

I found it very interesting, as I did research for the 'Q,' as we have a 'QC' in our collection, with last patent date of Aug. 20, 1901.

From the information that I could find, there were several types of Columbia 'Q'; The model Columbia Q "Mignon," 1898-1903 and the Columbia Q, 1903-1908.

The simple, open-works Q is found in two distinct versions. The early nickel bedplate has a plain flat key, while later machines have a cast key with a filigree design.

.
When supplied with an oak case, the model was called "QC" and with both the case and a recorder, the model was called "QQ."

It retailed for a modest $5.00. The case was $2.50 extra. Measurements, with case; 6" H, 10 3/8" W and 6 7/8" D.

The oak lid was secured to the wooden base by two 6" medal rods with 5/8" of thread at the end of the rod. The rods have medal knobs protruding from the lid top, for turning. They are held in place by 2 brackets on the inside of the lid.
