| He was a pupil of A. J. Piron,
and in the years before and during World War I played lead violin in the
Magnolia Orchestra (which included King
Oliver) and in Kid Ory's Creole
Ragtime Band. In 1919 he joined the Maple Leaf Orchestra, but left in the
early 1920s to work with the cornetist Hypolite Charles. He ceased to perform
around 1935. Bigard taught the fundamentals of music to his nephew the
son of his half-brother. |
